DETROIT (AP) – Volkswagen luxury brand Audi is recalling 289,000 SUVs in the United States because water can enter a control computer under the rear seats.

The recall covers certain 2021 and 2022 Q5 and SQ5 Sportback models and certain 2018 to 2022 Q5 and SQ5 models.

The company says in documents released by U.S. safety regulators that water can reach the computer through liquid spilled in the backseat or through a leaky body seam. This can cause the computer to shut down and reduce engine power, increasing the risk of an accident.

VW says in documents that it is not aware of any accidents or injuries.

Dealers will install a cover to protect computers and seal a seam in the underbody at no cost to owners.

Notification letters will be mailed starting February 24.
