The HTS7500 turbine engine, designed and manufactured by a technology and engineering contractor Honeywellwill be used for future Lockheed Martin helicopter.

The company announced Thursday that the HTS7500 engine, a successor to a historic T55 engine that offers decades of proven performance, has been tapped to power the Sikorsky-Boeing DEFIANT X helicopter.

“This engine builds on the proven T55 architecture, but the HTS7500 takes engine performance, reliability and efficiency to a whole new level,” said Dave Marinickpresident of Honeywell Aerospace for engines and fuel systems.

The T55 engine has been the fuel burner of choice in the H-47 fleet for more than six decades, and Honeywell engines have been a staple in the civilian and military markets for more than seven decades. They are said to be privileged to operate in harsh environments.

Honeywell designed its HTS7500 engine with the intention of making it its most advanced military-grade model. It has a control system capable of handling large volumes of data and keeping users informed of engine status via the digital wire route map.

Lockheed Martin’s DEFIANT X helicopter is in the running for the U.S. Army’s Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft Evaluation, which is the service branch’s selection process for the next utility helicopter of choice.

The DEFIANT X is currently in the digital combat training stage and is said to be able to fly at speeds three times faster and farther than the Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk, the former mission standard for US helicopters. army.

If all goes as planned, the DEFIANT X will replace the Black Hawk in 2030.

Honeywell is currently working under contract with the US military to supply its proven T55 turboshaft engines for the Fleet of CH-47 Chinook helicopters. The contract was announced in March 2021 and lasts until the end of 2023.
