Raft: How to build the engine controls

Raft is the survival title that tasks you with surviving at sea. Like other titles with a similar premise, you’re not a pirate and you don’t even have a boat to set sail on. You start with a small raft that you have to expand as you explore nearby islands, and before you know it, you could very well have your own floating paradise.

That being said, once you start extending your raft, there will soon come a point where the wind will no longer be enough to keep it moving. It’s here that Engine controls enter, and you’ll need to build them to continue sailing your raft as it grows.

Motor controls will make your raft look much more like a boat, so here is exactly how to build engine controls and use them in Raft!

How to build engine controls in Raft

First, your raft will need motors. After all, Engine Controls would be useless without any engines to control.

An engine blueprint can be learned by researching the following resources at your research table:

  • 5x Metal Ingot
  • 5x Rope
  • 20x Board
  • 1x circuit board

Note that researched resources are consumed when used, so make sure you have plenty of extra resources on hand. Additionally, the blueprint for an engine can also be found on the Vasagatan.

This is what a Raft engine looks like.

After building engines and placing them around your raft, now is the time to research the engine controls blueprint. At your research table, you will need the following resources to research and create orders:

  • 6x Titanium Ingot
  • 6x pieces
  • 2x Bolt
  • 1x circuit board

While you can research Engine Controls at the Research Table, their Blueprint can also be found in the Mayor’s Chest on Caravan Island.

With both motors placed and your motor controls designed, place the controls in a viable location on your raft.

How to Use Engine Controls in Raft

The engine controls are operated using two levers. The lever with the handle can be used to turn your motors on or off, and the other lever is used to control the direction your raft spins.

Use the levers as your raft needs to change direction!

That’s it for the engine controls. For more on Raft, find out how to collect Titanium Ore and how to get Exchange Coins and Trash Cubes!
