An Alliance Air flight took off from Mumbai airport on Wednesday morning without its engine cowling (cover), which had fallen onto the runway.

“Alliance Air was supposed to fly from Mumbai to Bhuj, while the engine cowling of the plane fell on the runway and took off without the engine cowling,” a Mumbai airport source told ANI.

“The flight landed safely at Bhuj airport and an investigation has been opened against the airlines,” a DGCA official told ANI. Shortly after the flight took off from Mumbai, the Mumbai Air Traffic Controller (ATC) reported the problem.

“It was reported by Mumbai ATC that the engine cowling was found on the side of the runway after takeoff. It appears to be from ATR aircraft VT-RKJ at BOM which was operating 91-625 (BOM-BHJ ). The plane is still in flight,” a Mumbai airport official told ANI.


Captain Amit Singh, an aviation expert, blamed poor maintenance work for the incident.

“Cover separation incidents typically occur after maintenance activities if the latches are not secure. The crew should also ensure the engine cowl is in place before commencing flight,” he said. declared.
