Engine hitches on two Go First flights, both planes grounded: report

New Delhi, July 19: A video of a woman delivering her baby outside the emergency wing of Safdarjung Hospital after she was allegedly turned away by the Center-run facility here went viral on social media on Tuesday, prompting the Union Health Department to request a report on this.

The hospital has also opened an investigation into the incident, sources said.

In the video, some women are seen standing around the pregnant woman in a saree, covering her during childbirth. A few nurses are also seen on the spot.

Relatives of the woman are heard alleging the hospital did not admit her on Monday and she spent the night outside its emergency department.

A Union Health Ministry official said a report was requested from Safdarjung Hospital on the matter.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West), Manoj C, said the 30-year-old, resident of Khera, Ghaziabad, was taken to Safdarjung Hospital as she was due to give birth.

“According to the allegations, she was not admitted to hospital and she gave birth to a baby girl on the hospital premises. Now the woman and her baby have been admitted to hospital and all two are doing well. They are being treated by a senior doctor in the gynecology department,” he said.

“We have not yet received a complaint (against the hospital),” he added.

According to hospital sources, an investigation has been opened into the incident and a preliminary report will be filed shortly.

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has also sent a notice to the hospital, asking for a report on action taken on the matter by July 25.
