Energy sector cited as key driver of Brunei’s economic growth


BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/Asia News Network): The exhibition “Energy Security and Energy Transition: Today and Tomorrow” was officially launched on Wednesday June 15, as part of a series of events for the week of energy in collaboration with the Brunei Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition 2022 (Brunei MYCE) at the International Conference Center (ICC) in Berakas.

Energy Week aims to raise awareness of the energy sector’s resilience in the face of the ever-changing global energy market, with energy security and energy transition at its core.

The four-day event also celebrates the sector’s significant contribution as a key driver of Brunei Darussalam’s economic growth in building a better future for Brunei people.

Minister in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi Mohd Yussof, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Dato Seri Paduka Dr Haji Abdul Manaf Metussin and Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Awang Nazmi Mohamad launched the event.

According to the organizers of Brunei MYCE 2022, energy security is characterized by the need for a secure, reliable and uninterrupted supply of energy to drive economies, businesses and societies towards sustainability, while energy transition responds to the the country’s commitment to a more sustainable and cleaner energy industry.

“The country’s energy transformation takes into account the transition to a low-carbon energy system to safeguard the nation’s environmental heritage.

“In line with the theme, the expo provides exclusive access to the latest initiatives, including local employment opportunities and sustainability efforts in the energy sector,” organizers said in a press release.

Participating exhibitors include the Office of the Prime Minister’s Department of Energy, Department of Electrical Services (DES), National Safety, Health and Environment Authority (SHENA), Petroleum Authority from Brunei Darussalam, higher education institutions, leading oil and gas companies. and electrical operators.

A series of interactive sessions between companies, entrepreneurs, the public and professionals in the energy sector and related agencies are organized to raise awareness of the development of the energy sector.

A market engagement session is being held over the four days, to connect entrepreneurs and local businesses with the country’s major oil and gas operators as part of initiatives to support local business penetration into the oil and gas sector. energy.

The market engagement session will include activities such as supplier presentation and a clinic for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Supporting local workforce development in the energy sector, a career fair is being held as part of the initiative to provide job seekers and the public with unprecedented access to gather employment information and gain quality career advice directly from energy industry representatives. and other establishments.

During the four-day event, the Human Resources Competency Framework (HRCF) will also be launched as an established mechanism for the strategic development of the Ministry of Energy’s human resources to further assist the growth of its manpower capacities in line with the development of the energy sector of Brunei Darussalam.

Energy Week also brings together industrial and academic players in the energy sector in an in-depth strategic discussion on energy issues.

A symposium will take place today with panel discussions on a wide range of energy topics, to discuss future challenges for the oil and gas industry in the Sultanate, ideas on energy transition, to share the career path of leaders Brunei in oil and gas businesses.

An Energy Seminar will take place tomorrow to foster discussions among attendees that will cover topics and case studies, such as subsurface, security, asset integrity, green energy and enabling technology to unlock opportunities upstream.

In order to emphasize operational safety in the energy sector, a Safety Month closing ceremony in conjunction with the World Day for Safety and Health at Work (WDSHW) will be held on June 18 .

In order to highlight the evolution of the electricity sector in the Sultanate, site visits are underway at Bukit Panggal Power Station, Berakas Power Station and the National Control Center from June 16 to 18, in the purpose of acquainting students with modern technology used in increasing energy efficiency through electricity generation.

Brunei MYCE 2022 is organized by the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism through the Brunei Tourism Board in collaboration with government agencies, statutory bodies, stakeholders and private agencies.
