Cummins X-15 Marine Engine Now Certified by Major Classification Societies

Columbus, Indiana, headquartered Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI), reports that its new X15 marine engine. now has type approvals from ABS, BV, RINA and DNV classification societies.

The X15-rated engine will be in full production at the end of 2022. Initially launched for the marine segment at the end of 2018, the X15 engine has taken more than 15 years to develop in the industrial market. The X15 includes full engine protection capabilities, fuel sensor, gear pressure and temperature monitoring as well as digital start/stop functionality.

With a power range of 450 horsepower to 600 horsepower (336 to 447 kW) and a weight of 3,800 lb (1,724 kg), it is claimed to offer the highest power density for continuous applications in its class. Constant speed auxiliary powers are available on 50 Hz or 60 Hz with 507 horsepower (373 kW) with the possibility of coupling with an alternator or a Stamford AvK offer.

Since its initial release, the X15 has used Cummins’ XPI fuel system product, resulting in efficient fuel consumption for clean emissions and optimized fuel economy and ensuring compliance with IMO Tier 2 emissions standards and EPA Tier 3. It is now available to pair with Cummins’ PrevenTech Marine solution – an integrated digital solution for end-to-end asset health management to increase uptime, reduce costs and provide peace of mind, security and planning.

The X15 marine engine is available with a basic warranty of 24 months or 8,000 hours for severe applications and 24 months or unlimited hours for continuous service. It is also backed by Cummins extensive network of more than 9,000 service locations and dealerships worldwide.
