It takes hard work behind the scenes to make the superstars shine in front of the cameras and under the klieg lights. In politics, engine room workaholics are hardly ever seen or celebrated. The Honorable CID Maduabum LL.M, MNIM, the Director General of the Forum of Governors of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) exemplifies the backstage confidence principal who delivers the goods.
Holder of a master’s degree in law, Maduabum has distinguished himself as a lawyer for almost 40 years. He has been elected twice to the House of Representatives. As a member of the House for two terms, he left a formidable legacy in the sands of time.
A highly sought-after senior administrator, he served as former deputy chief of staff and then chief of staff of former presidents of the National Assembly.
Maduabum has indeed paid his contribution in politics having been the special assistant to the honorable minister of Science and Technology from 1993 to 1995. He was the special assistant of the honorable minister, Special Duties 1 to the presidency in 1995. Between 2001 and 2002, he was Chairman of the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC).
From March 2002 to November 2002, he was the Hon. Commissioner for Trade, Cooperatives and Tourism in his native Anambra state.
He was Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Judicial Power at the Abuja National Assembly from 2005 to 2007. He was a member of the House Committee on Population, Shipping, Health, Science and Technology, Narcotics and Financial Crimes, Emergency and Disaster Management, and Trade between 2005 and 2007.
Maduabum raised the bar as chairman of the House committee on public petitions from 2007 to 2011
He was appointed Chief of Staff to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives in 2011 and worked meritoriously until 2015 before becoming the same year Deputy Chief of Staff to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, a position he held until he became the acting CEO of the PDP Governors Forum in 2019.
Hailing from Ukpor in the southern Nnewi local government area of Anambra State, Maduabum is at the epicenter of the PDP renaissance, working tirelessly with the sympathetic Alhaji Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Chairman of the Forum of Governors of the PDP and Executive Governor of Sokoto State, alongside all other party governors.
Field administrator, Maduabum publishes the Forum’s electronic magazine and presents “PDP Governors in action”. It is always available with sources and various necessary materials on the holiday and commendable plans for Nigeria.
He has proven to be a loyal party man from the start. He began to gain national attention when he was among the winners in the 2003 National Assembly elections in Anambra state, whose victories were clandestinely overturned after INEC announced them as the winners!
As a staunch supporter of the rule of law, he took to the courts to reclaim his hard-won victory. Senator Ben Obi was in the Anambra State’s Rejected Winners League, and he scored more than two dozen court victories before then Senate Speaker Adolf Wabara got into trouble with the powers that be for allowing him to take the oath. to sit in the Senate!
Maduabum’s tortuous march through the House of Representatives did not deter him at all. In fact, it emboldens him all the more to speak the truth to power.
It is remarkable that he joined with Senator Ben Obi, among others, in foiling President Olusegun Obasanjo’s third-term plot. He was in Senator Uche Chukwumerije’s league insisting on respect for term limits, and he was determined to pay the price for standing up for the truth, including not allowing the party platform to return to the Assembly. national.
I remember visiting Maduabum at a hotel on Victoria Island, Lagos, where one of his colleagues in the House of Representatives who supported the third term plan was in hiding, claiming to be admitted to the hospital, after a former Nigerian leader challenged him to collect the windfall of extending the tenure of corruption!
Maduabum was denied the PDP ticket to again contest a return to the House of Representatives because of his principled position. He refused to bend his knee in the face of the oppression and has since moved on.
Now that her party, the PDP, has been out of power since 2015, Nigerians are faced with the reality that only when a woman marries two husbands can she really make a difference. The All Progressives Congress (APC) oversaw a Nigeria in which the dollar exchange rate fell to N570 from N170, and the price of a bag of rice became N28,000 instead of N8,500.
With Maduabum in the engine room of the PDP Governor’s Forum, the party can really move forward towards a victorious revival from 2023.
