Assam’s development could be growth driver for NE: Chairman



Guwahati, October 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) President Draupadi Murmu on Friday – on her second day visit to Assam, virtually inaugurated and also laid foundation stones for various projects, officials said.

These include the inauguration of the Railhead Depot of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. in Moinarbond, Silchar, and two motorway projects.

In addition, foundation stones have been laid for 100 model secondary schools in the tea garden areas of Assam, 3,000 model centers in Anganwadi, two highway projects and a modern cargo and coach terminal in Guwahati. .

President Murmu also signaled a train from Guwahati to Lumding which will connect Nagaland and Meghalaya.

Speaking on the occasion, she said the development of Assam can be the driving force for the development of the North East region.

She also wished the success of the projects related to health, education, railways, road construction, petroleum and women’s empowerment which were launched on Friday.

The President expressed his belief that the successful implementation of these programs will provide new business and employment opportunities, increase transport facilities and strengthen the economy in the North East, including Assam.

She said better infrastructure is the basis for the development of any state, adding that the northeast is the focal point of “India’s East Policy”.

The president further said that the northeast is rich in natural resources.

She noted that Assam contributes 13% of India’s total crude oil production. In addition, 15% of India’s total natural gas production comes from the northeast.

She said she is confident that the state-of-the-art Silchar depot which was inaugurated on Friday will help meet the petroleum product needs of Assam’s Barak Valley region as well as the states of Tripura, Manipur and Mizoram.

The President said the central government is paying close attention to road and rail connectivity in all the northeastern states.

She expressed her belief that various road and railway projects whose foundation stones have been laid and inaugurated will increase tourism opportunities in addition to improving trade and transportation in the region.

President Murmu said that the security and integral development of women and children is a sign of a civilized society.

To further strengthen the various services for women and children in Assam, 3,000 Anganwadi Model Centers launched on Friday is a commendable initiative.

Earlier Friday morning, Murmu visited Kamakhya temple in Guwahati and prayed there.
