An ambulance caught fire as it drove through the town of Marbella in Malaga and ended up crashing into a fire truck.
An ambulance from the Tenorio company, contracted by the Andalusian Health Service (SAS), caught fire on Wednesday June 22 while traveling in the city of Marbella in Malaga.
At around 8:10 p.m., the vehicle was driving on Avenida Duque de Lerma when it was observed to be on fire. The ambulance driver was alone in the vehicle when the incident occurred. He was alerted to the problem by members of the public who told him that smoke was coming from the emergency apparatus.
Marbella firefighters were mobilized to tackle the ensuing blaze and during extinguishing work the ambulance collided with the fire truck causing a loud noise and a column of fire.
Although the causes of the fire are under investigation, it would seem that health workers have for some time been denouncing “the lack of maintenance and the poor state of the emergency ambulances”.
The vehicle, which was part of the Albarizas Health Center’s Emergency Health Transport (RTU) network, reportedly did not receive regular maintenance and had around 600,000 kilometers on the clock.
According to health sources, the driver was transferred to a hospital center where he remains hospitalized, as reported malagahoy.es.
