For years, drivers believed that higher octane gas was the best way to treat your car, truck, or SUV, but AAA says its researchers have discovered another gas that may be better for the engine. of a car.
AAA spokeswoman Amy Parmenter said that a third of gasoline retailers sell Top Tier gasoline.
Top Tier covers all octane levels and contains detergents that AAA engineers have tested and found to be better for the car’s engine, gas mileage, and emissions.
“The researchers were surprised to find that there was such a difference between the essences,” Parmenter said.
On average, gasoline costs about three to four cents more per gallon, Parmenter noted.
But drivers won’t have to search for top-notch gasoline since several retailers offer it and there’s a full list on TopTiergas.com.
“If your gasoline is on this list, you can rest assured that whatever gas you buy at this station, whether regular, mid-size or premium, it will be Top Tier gas,” Parmenter said.
Pam Potemri from North Stonington had an idea of what Top Tier gas is.
“I think depending on what kind of car you’re trying to maintain, I think it’s important because maintenance always pays off,” Potemri said.
NBC Connecticut convenience stores spoke to fuel analysts at research labs in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
He said premium gasoline helps the vehicle run better, and although retailers charge three or four cents per gallon more, the gross cost for adding the additional detergents is barely approaching one cent per gallon.
